Mission Team focuses on Outreach
The new
Mission Team formed during the fall of 2010. Its focus is on exploring
and engaging in mission opportunities both locally and worldwide, and in
choosing mission projects to introduce to the congregation. Recent
examples of successful mission projects completed by Aptos UMC include
the Write Start Backpack Project, the CROP Hunger Walk, the Above the
Line families we adopted for Christmas, and the other Alternative Giving
Charities.
We're now in a covenant relationship with United
Methodist missionary Katherine Parker. We've encouraged folks to give
gifts of money to Second Harvest Food Bank in honor of a family member
or friend.
The Mission Team sees itself helping the
congregation to focus on needs outside ourselves in order to serve our
neighbors in need, whether here in Santa Cruz County, or in Afganistan
or Cambodia.
